From today onwards I am an "international learner". I am sticking my nose in this book that I have recently bought. I am now studying from two books at the same time which at some point can become a little chaotic but let's say I am not afraid of messing my mind.
As much as I didn't want to admit it to myself, in the end I have to say it, self-study is at times really painful because it's such a slow process, plus, not having someone to practice the language with gives you a sense that everything you do is hopeless. But then again every time I feel I am about to lose hope there is something that draws me back. I guess I am forever tied to this language. Don't get me wrong, Korean is not a burden for me but more like the longest journey I have ever dared to take on my shoulders.
I know, patience is the key but at times patience seems a mountain I'll never be able to climb.

I just felt like sharing this with you and also wanted to get me motivated by marking this day.
By the way, how do you get motivated?

The Giant Apology

You know, most of the times Koreans use a pun to make an apology.
They say 내 사과 받아주세요 {please accept my apology} with an apple in hands, playing in this way with the word사과 which means apology but also apple.
I always wanted to try this, although no one around me,
with the exception of my boyfriend,
understands its meaning, nevertheless I find it endearing and quirky.
This idea clears the sky for me, the apple of discord loses its mythological power and becomes a simple apple offered with a genuine heart of regret. It’s fuzzy precious.
The end of the year brought me a giant apple so that I can begin with an apology to myself first, for being too lazy, too ill, for pricking my fingers too much, for being a bad friend to me and to others, for not studying enough, for not reading enough, for being a bad sister, for not sewing enough, for not eating enough fruits, for not waking up early enough, for being too indecisive and too shy.
And an apology to you for selfishly eating the biggest apple I've ever seen all by myself.
Next year I am going to do better. It’s not a promise. It’s an apple.

I'm a little late in talking about this but anyway, I am going to do it.
Renegade Craft Fair wasn't the craft fair I had in mind, it was even better.
Calm and crafty atmosphere with artists smiling and working all around you.
Incredible item presentation and quality.
It was "a best" weekend spent in London.
I came back home with a doll from ninon. With beautiful long legs, amazing orange boots with a ribbon on top and a fancy mint lace as a collar. Her name is Gloria-Jean Dupré, according to the tag Tania attached to her but guess what? I changed it. Don't get mad at me Tania!
I named her Caroline.
She now lives in my studio. I might give her a miniature self-portrait one day. She knows how to thread needles and constantly gives instructions to the other toys in my studio to keep quiet while I am at my busy working hours. She has become and indispensable presence here.

So it was London.
Long walks. Big red buses. Busy colorful markets. No rain. People, many people and their mysterious words. A craft fair. Lots of painful steps but who remembers those now. Tasty Korean and Japanese food. Our Italian room neighbors. Busy streets with busy people who keep saying sorry. Any amount of books. The serious yet playful museum atmosphere. Interminable tube tunnels. London is a fun friend to be with.
London is also a frightening one. Close your eyes once and it swallows you completely.
London can feel like home too, for 5 days.
It calls me back year after year but London is not my home.
You know the saying "home is where your heart is." I decided. London can have my tourist heart, completely for now but it will most probably have to share it later.

We are leaving tomorrow morning, going to visit Renegade Craft Fair London.
I'm so curious about it!!!

First of October.
I am longing for a soft weekend. Soft light. Soft thread. I have been crocheting for the last two days. Nothing big, golden yellow actually. I am not done yet, I might show you. Meanwhile, my fingers are sore. It's not my first time but who said crocheting is an easy thing to do?

I have been in a confused state of mind. I want to do so much at once that I end up doing nothing. I want to buy a sewing machine, I want to learn how to embroider and I want to learn how to design patterns for miniature crocheting, plus there is my passion for felt. Ahh, this spiderweb!!! How do you stay organized? I am really curious. How do you do it? I am a mess, everything has to come first.

My spirit is like a ball of yarn, knit one, purl one. If I keep knitting my sweater will grow until it will fit me and keep me warm. I am following no pattern, when I need to knit two I knit them. I grow row by row but at times I can't help myself from thinking "I'm going to skip a stitch and make a hole, take that."
Whenever I reach an end I ask myself "Do I really need to find silk in order to be happy?"
My boyfriend joins me in this journey, he is quite bad at knitting, keeps losing the needles on the way but he always knocks the door of my world with postcards, books or flowers in his hands and a warm smile on his face. He is a good child, although taller than me.

Treats for the children that live in me and sometimes leave me to jump the ropes of twisted stitches.

Finally designed a fox head! I have been thinking about it since forever.

I have been working all week to these foxes and my yet unfinished Viktor helped a lot, he was picking colors and giving me advice on thread, very busy.
We were able to create 13 foxes (one necklace and 12 pins), phew, we worked really hard.

Little Black Desk

My mini studio is literally situated behind the curtains of the second hand bookshop I run together with my boyfriend. It's really small, crammed with books and with a poor light, is true that I would have loved at least a window but still I am having a good time here, the space where I create.
In one corner I have my black desk, when I am not sewing here is where I spend my time, drawing and studying.

This picture was taken before the redecoration of my walls.

This is how I work: messy sketches and messy thoughts.

These are the boxes in which my work travels from home to my studio and vice versa and also my curent work in progress.

I use only two sccissors, lots of sewing thread, lots of tiny paper patterns and of course a big bunch of felt.

The wall in front of me is an inspirational corner, you can see here my first sneak peek girl drawing, it was supposed to be much bigger.

In the end, I used the initial drawing and made myself a big stuffed pin :)

Last evening while preparing some pins for photos I gazed at Viktor as I have been doing for the last 2 months already. I love amigurumi toys so much and like 2 months ago with some cotton yarn and a crochet hook in my hands I decided to give it a go and design my first amigurumi ever, of course it had to be a panda! But for some reasons I haven't been able to finish him. I am so sorry Viktor!!! (which by the way is a borrowed name until I find a good Korean one for him). He needs one more leg and the arms. I love him so much! I was actually completely absorbed in making him for 5 days and then I suddenly abandoned him like that and not to mention that he is the perfect amigurumi panda from my imagination!
I plan to treat him with a special post once he is ready.
Hopefully really soon!

I eventually decided to try and write a tutorial. Hoot! Hoot! For those who are thread addicts like me, here is my handmade way of storing my patience. You all know how messy thread can get! Whenever that happens I fume, hehe.
I hope you will find it useful.

I simply imagined the design I would like, drew it and after that put my scissors to work. You decide on what measurements will work for you.

The result is more that satisfying for me since I was getting bored of my old "thread hangers". The new ones are smaller and a lot more cuter than the old ones. Don't you think?

I have started a new collection of pins called

I am going to design 100 unusual hats for 100 eccentic girls. For how long? Hopefully not forever. These are no 1 and 2. I am full of enthusiasm at the moment and so curious to swim through all the depths of my imagination.

Also, last week I ordered some felt from lupin which is run by lovely Laura, who is an amazing artist herself. Apart from the fact that I got it in a record time, only 4 days, it's absolutely fabulous so I couldn't stop myself from ordering more. As you can see I have already used it for no 3 of my WonderHATs.
Thank you so much Laura, these new colours gave me the refreshing emotion that I was working with felt for the first time!

On the first day of January I asked myself: Why do you keep teasing handmade? It's been a year already.
Is it fun?
Actually it is, it is so much fun that I don't want to stop. I want to play as seriously as I can.
So here I am, making vows to myself that I'm going to refine the edges of my imagination and to bet all I've got on thread and needles.

I'll turn all my ideas upside down. The more serious I'll get the more playful my girls will be. Amazing Land may be a borrowed title but I'm going to make it mine and real. My own Amazing Land, a place where the more serious you play the more fun it will be.
I'll go wild because there's no limit to my possibilities and therefore no reason to hold back, I realised that today.

Can you believe how lazy I am? HaHa. This is crazy.
I'm here to brag, keke.
Firstly, I finally mastered all Hangul, the Korean alphabet and I'm so freakin' happy about this new experience, although it took me about 2 days. I can write and read now, next is vocabulary and grammar. Bring it on sistar!
Secondly, my hair is behaving again, it keeps growing to my heart's content, yay.
Thirdly, I'm off to London next week for 4 days. YUHU. I keep thinking what to visit, hm something I haven't seen yet. My wishlist is not finished but I'm definitely going to visit Pollocks Toys Museum. How on earth did I miss it last year? Yeah, I know, sorry I asked. Any suggestions?
Anyway I made my lucky pin that will travel with me to London. Meet Mr. Panda, my newest obsession. I have to mention that he is more fluent with English than me, oops.

I've also been working on my own circus called High Bubble Circus, which is still missing a few members.

Because pink life and fancy glasses (that I never wear by the way, but that is no the point here) are small bits of my happiness these guys were born.

Bewitched bits of happiness

The first of September came a long way bringing a cold weather and a gray sky ready to cry his grief on my shoulder. The summer is over but I'm not nostalgic at all. The days that felt like suffocating are gone. The autumn wakes up my senses with its cold grinning. Ah, this is so refreshing!!! There are so many things I want to do, so many things I want to learn!

I stopped by today because I really need to tell you that I met two friendly B's on my journey through the virtual world.

The first B is for Brigitte, "the ultra busy puppetteer" behind Zombuki and her etsy shop that brings on stage a fresh "Haute Cute" ambiance, playing together with "puppets with a soul" this time. So artists all over the world do pay her a visit, she will greet you with an incredible sense for cuteness!
She invited me over for a friendly chat together with my animal disguise pins.

I belong to the Haute Cute shop now. Knock, knock, Brigitte are you there? I just wanted to say a BIG thank you again :)

The second B is for Bee, "one lady sweet as honey" that brings smiles on our faces with her enchanting illustrations.

Do you know why I admire illustrators so much? Because instead of words they create fairy tales using images. Reinventing the world through images brings hiccups of happiness for me everytime.
She treated me with some home backed honey cookies so I coudn't resist and stopped by for a cup of words yesterday. It was so much fun! Thanks a big bunch for you attention and care my dear friend :)

A girl and a tattoo

I just wanted to drop some lines to tell you that I'm so darn excited about my new girls and their ribbon tattoo. I'm seriously thinking of getting one myself, but I'm so damn scared of the needle! It's funny how I keep a needle in my hand all day long and I'm still afraid of it, haha.

I've been on a hiatus for so long. I was busy, busy and then tired, very tired. Phew, it's finally over now I can do some more sewing, yay.

I've been making new friends. Meet Ivy and Abbey (the hedgehog), they are both enchanting.
Ivy requested me to design a pendant with her avatar from her cute etsy shop. I cannot believe it's been so long, she already received it, haha. Ivy, my pleasure and joy in creating a mini you and a mini Abbey cannot be expressed in words. I THANK YOU so much. You and Abbey rock!!! haha.

Ivy loves hedgehogs and has an 8-year experience in scrapbooking. Wow, that's a lot :) Keept it up! She has an impressive studio where she does magic with paper and other ingredients. Her little Abbey inspired her to create scrapbooking layouts and to start a new hedgehog collection which entails a whole lot of searching....for hedgehog stuff. That sounds so much fun :D

Memories from a distant star

Imagine travelling on foot, we would have travelled in time for sure :P

We left early and got to see the sunrise

I'm back from my journey to my grandparents whom I see once a year because of the cruel distance that lives between us. Twenty four hours spent on the road made me realize that we weren't going for a drive but then again every long journey is tiring. Together with my grandparents I so missed the mountains too, got to see them on the way, they seem bigger to me everytime.

My time with my grandparents was short but I don't regret it because I came back with new memories to treasure. Is so strange to listen to your grandmother speaking about her past, about the days when she was young, is like hearing a story from another world, a world in which I will never be able to enter. I realized that I will never be able to know her, my grandmother is out of reach for me. Thinking like that makes me a little sad, life sure is unfair. My grandmother was a tailor all her life, she practically spent half of her life with the sewing machine but what impressed me the most was the moment she said that she made her own wedding dress. How cool is that? Ironically I cannot handle the sewing machine, in fact I'm kind of scared of it, ha, but I still don't know why. I do all my sewing using my hands, glad I have them, maybe someday I'll try to tame the monster that lives next to my bed in complete silence. Will a kiss do?

How is your week? Anything good happened? I declared war to food lately. Sugar is the most powerful enemy so far but I've been resisting well.
I keep watching the opening from Honey & Clover (one of my favourite anime series) thinking that food can be your friend if you want it to be.

Tommorow starts my journey to see my grandparents, they live in the opposite part of the country but travelling by car is one of my big delights so I'm expecting it to be fun. I cannot wait to have some quiet days faraway from my laptop and "the devil" (a.k.a internet). I'm reading again one of my eternal treasuries, the book that treats childhoood with poetry and that enchants the inner child in me. I think I'm going to read it every summer from now on.

Becoming Pinocchio while collecting new ideas

Hooray for my second feature!!!! This time I'm starring on Chic Mother & Baby. The directors are two lovely women who love to shop so they are creating "short films" featuring amazing artists and shops from all over the world. They have a unique style in presenting the stories, you will never get bored of reading their blog! Plus they also own a fancy store filled with mother+baby delights.

ALERT, ALERT: Ever since I have been featured on other blogs my nose began to grow. What should I do? I think I'm becoming Pinocchio but for a totally different reason:P (laughs).

Now for my show, I created a new series of girls called She collects...

...hedgehogs and hides them under her bed so when she is having bad dreams they come out and whisper secrets into her ear. She eats mushrooms during the day.

...squirrels. She is like a nut, I mean she has a "squirrelish" sense of style. Living on a tree, she doesn' talk to strangers, her welcome sign reads: "Squirrels only".

...rabbits. Called "The Magician", her hat eats an incredible quantity of rabbits everyday. She can recite 101 magic spells and knows the names of all her rabbits.

...paper boats. Coming from the sea, she travels around the world with her mind and builds paper boats with her hands.

Do Mondays make you happy? I was always wondering what is the best way to start a week. Do you know some kind of recipe? Can you cook it? Mmmm, I can feel the smell already! Mondays should smell like hot chocolate and... hot chocolate again. Let's use Mr. Wonka's elevator to get there! Hey Charlie, can you hear me?

If you ask me, my Mondays should look like this:

- wake up early (I hate waking up late on Mondays, it feels like sleeping the whole week on a sole night)
- wear comfortable shoes

Illustrations are such visual beauties and such a big weakness of mine that I cannot ignore them, never, so I had to share what I found today. Nico, a Japanese illustrator brought a wide smile on my face on this rainy day (no wonder her name is a meaning of "smile" in Japanese).

Overly enthusiast with my discovery, Nico has my heart now.

Coffee House anyone?

Nice to meet you Coffee House! Yes, you are LOVED.
Ok, so I've been watching 6 episodes of Coffee House and WOW, I love every detail in this drama. The story is engaging, the most inventive drama I've watched so far!
I've seen some of the kdrama cliches (if you are a kdrama enthusiast, you know what I talk about :P) twisted in such a way that I can't stop wanting for more, it makes the story funny and real, the antidote that works for me to like the characters.
Postponed for three weeks because of the World Cup football championship, I'm more eager to watch the next episodes but still there is nothing I can do but wait. Meanwhile I'll be drawing some new girls for my etsy shop, while picking up my rubber I found some new ideas under my desk.

Talking ceramics

Ceramics weren't on my interests list until I stumbled upon these fantastic living arms. The way they crave for touches is astonishing, I sense a strong feeling of loneliness in their petrified movements. Created in a young studio in Barcelona, they are amazing pieces of useable art.

This one is definitely my favourite, a mug that hugs my face while drinking, warmly showing affection, how cool is that?

Plus my addiction to hedgies has no end but I pretty much enjoy my circle, is so round!

Feeling like a shadow sometimes? No? Monochromatic worlds work fine for me though.

My first custom order was such a challenge to me that I kept thinking: "Oh, boy will I really be able to bring you to life?". The idea of making boys grew stronger in my mind after grabbing my pencil in hands, also my confindence and big smile appeared soon after the first sketches. Boys, hmmm, I really don't know why I didn't try my hand at them before, they are friendly and know lots of stories too.

That is why I THANK YOU special lady for giving me this delightful opportunity and for letting me create felt stills of your life and your two twins.
I had an enchanting time, it has been a month full of talented little boys.

It felt precious and captivating and fun, fun, fun!!!

White poppies, the biggest surprise for me today. So wild and natural and so fragile that I was afraid to touch them.

Poppies are my favourite flowers, so impossible to keep, always gone with the wind.

I'm working on something new. I felt like playing circus and cut my little girl in two, I pretty much love the result.

In ultima vreme m-am delectat cu muuuult fetru, teatru radiofonic, carti si filme coreene \(^_^)/. E inca prea frig sa-mi scot nasul la maraton. Am avut parte de ceva flori dar au inghetat, la fel ca si cuvintele, precis au inghetat pe undeva.
Mi-e dor de aricii cu care, asta toamna, mi-am dat intalniri nocturne in gradina blocului, mi-e dor de porumbeii galaciosi care poposeau pe pervazul ferestrei mele, mi-e dor de frunze si de soare, de papadiile razlete, mi-e dor de pescuit, de biciclete, de ferestre deschise, de aer.
Mi-e dor de mingea mea de volei, de stiloul meu, de macul roz, de vointa mea de a ma trezi la 6 pentru a citi macar cateva pagini, mi-e dor de gradina bunicii, mi-e dor de zmeul pe care nu l-am inaltat niciodata, mi-e dor de timp si de Olguta.
